About the Zande Language, and Our New Dictionary
The Azande speak Zande (also written Pa-Zande), part of the Ubangian branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It is the largest of the Zande languages, which also include closely related languages such as Nzakara, Barambu, and Geme.
Estimates of Zande speakers vary by source, ranging from around one million to several million people across South Sudan, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic.
We've launched a community-built Zande Dictionary right here on the site, where anyone can contribute a word and its English translation. Every submission is reviewed before it goes live, to keep the dictionary accurate and reliable.
If you speak Zande, please consider contributing — even a handful of words from you helps build something lasting for the next generation. Visit the Zande Dictionary under Language to get started.
